A New Way of Living

Breaking Free: A New Way of Living in Christ

Many of us enter a new year with goals and resolutions, determined that "this time will be different." However, true lasting change requires more than just new goals - it requires a new way of living.

Why Do We Keep Struggling with the Same Issues?

Even as Christians, we often find ourselves stuck in cycles of defeat, making the same mistakes repeatedly. This can leave us feeling hypocritical and discouraged. The good news is that Christ has already set us free. The challenge isn't gaining freedom - it's learning how to stay free.

The Key Difference Between Surrender and Submission

There are two crucial elements to experiencing lasting freedom:

  • Surrender is how we break free initially
  • Submission is how we stay free
  • Many Christians surrender their lives to Christ but struggle with fully submitting to Him in every area. True freedom requires following the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.

Why Do We Still Struggle After Finding Freedom?

Paul explains in Romans 7 that there is an ongoing battle between our desire to do right and the sinful nature that wages war against our minds. The enemy's primary target is our thoughts - he wants us to believe we'll never be truly free.

Key Truth: Freedom Isn't About Perfection

Freedom isn't a prize for perfect people - it's a promise for God's children. You might stumble on the path of freedom, but that doesn't mean you have to stay down or return to bondage.

    This week, challenge yourself to:

  • Identify areas where you haven't fully submitted to the Holy Spirit's leading
  • Ask yourself: "Am I trying to earn freedom through rules, or am I walking in the freedom Christ already provided?"
  • Consider: What old identities am I still holding onto that prevent me from fully walking in freedom?
